Jakarta – A group of zakat and waqf managers from four West African countries, namely Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Benin, recently visited Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School and Darunnajah University in Jakarta. The participants of the IsDB/SOZECOM (Islamic Development Bank/Sokoto Zakat and Waqf Endowment Commission) Capacity Building Project on Zakat, Waqf, and Islamic Microfinance 2024/2025 were led by Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, who also serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Global Zakat and Waqf Forum for West Africa.
The main purpose of this visit was to study the waqf management model implemented at Darunnajah. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Scouts of Darunnajah Islamic Elementary School, and they had the opportunity to visit various facilities at Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School, including classrooms, the Production House, and the Studio.
During the visit, the delegation was received directly by the Principal of Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School and the President of Darunnajah University, Dr. K.H. Sofwan Manaf, M.Si., and K.H. Hadiyanto Arief, S.H., M.B.S. Also present were the Vice Rector of Darunnajah University, H. Hendro Risbiyantoro, M.S., and the Director of LAZNAS Darunnajah, Zakiyanto Arief, S.I.P., M.M.

6. Jafar Yunus Bawa – Dipl. Coordinator of Relations at the Zakat and Waqf Board of Kaduna State, Nigeria
7. Dr. Abubakar Yusuf – Executive Secretary of the Zakat and Waqf Board of Katsina State, Nigeria
8. Sesay Issa Ghalie, M.Sc. – Secretary-General of the National Zakat and Waqf Commission of Sierra Leone
9. Musa Baba Adam, B.Sc. – CEO of the Zakat and Waqf Endowment Fund of Ghana
10. Chitou Abdul Matine, B.Sc. – CEO of the Zakat and Waqf Endowment Fund of Ghana
This visit is a valuable opportunity for both sides to share knowledge and experiences in the management of zakat and waqf, which can provide significant benefits, particularly in the development of the Islamic philanthropy sector in these countries.
