Jakarta, 27 February 2025 – The British Embassy in Jakarta hosted an event to launch a report on the findings of Mr. Jonathan Ledger’s visit, Specialist in Skills and Professional Bodies from the UK Department for Business and Trade. The visit aimed to identify opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Indonesia in vocational training and skills development, particularly in the field of green skills.
The event, held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Jakarta, was attended by various stakeholders from the education and business sectors, including Dr. Irfanuddin Kurniawan and Rahman Saktiawan R. Kalake, M.Psi., from University of Darunnajah. Their presence highlighted the importance of higher education institutions in developing skills relevant to the needs of the global industry.
In his presentation, Jeffry Johary emphasized that the development of international and national businesses must be aligned with the improvement of human resources quality in Indonesia. “Universities have a strategic role in preparing a workforce that is not only technically skilled but also adaptable to the development of the global industry. Partnerships with international institutions, such as those facilitated by the British Embassy, will help increase the competitiveness of Indonesian graduates in the international job market,” he said.
Meanwhile, Suren Verma highlighted the impact of business transformation on higher education curricula. “The changing business landscape, particularly in the green and digital sectors, demands curriculum reforms that are more applied and industry-based. Through this collaboration, universities can accelerate the alignment of theory and practice in the workplace,” he explained.
The event also featured OCS Group, a UK-based facilities management provider, which shared its experience in building skills training partnerships in Indonesia with UK-based training providers. The discussion highlighted various opportunities for cooperation in the vocational sector, including the development of industry-based training programs that can support business growth in both countries.
The launch of this report is expected to be the first step in building stronger synergy between higher education institutions and the business world, with the goal of creating a workforce that is ready to face industrial challenges at both national and international levels.
